At least 2 shot at Portland, Oregon high school

PORTLAND, Ore. – At least two people were shot at Rosemary Anderson High School in Northeast Portland, Portland Police said.

The school is located at 717 North Killingsworth Court in the city.

The shooting happened just before 12:15 p.m. PT.

The school was on lockdown. The shooting happened at the front of the school on Killingsworth Court.

Firefighters say they have taken three people to the hospital.

Fire Bureau spokesman Terry Foster said Friday he didn’t have information about the conditions of the three people or whether all were gunshot victims.

Rosemary Anderson High School is an alternative school that serves at-risk students who were expelled or dropped out, are homeless or single parents.

Portland police were searching for the shooter and said the suspect or suspects have left the area.


Oregon Live reports:

Early reports say a 17-year-old was shot in back and a separate female student was shot in the chest. At least three people were transported to Legacy Emanuel Health Center.

1:11 p.m.: Lockdown lifted and Jefferson High School and Portland Community College. Portland Police says the victims are teenagers, working to confirm that they are students.

Also at this time, police don’t know how the shooter left the scene. Officers have cleared the school and the area is now safe and secure.

12:58 p.m.: Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson confirmed that the shooting was outside the school at North Borthwick Avenue and Killingsworth Court. He also said:

  • The victims were two males and one female. They all ran inside the school outside Rosemary Anderson High School immediately after the shooting.
  • There is currently not an active shooter at the scene.
  • Police swept through the school to make sure there were no additional victims.
  • The shooter left the scene.

Portland Police Bureau reports:

There were three victims in today’s shooting that occurred outside Rosemary Anderson High School on Killingsworth Court and Borthwick. The three teenage victims, two males and one female, ran to the high school following the shooting. The shooter ran from the scene. The high school immediately went into lockdown. Officers responded and ensured everyone was safe.

Medical transported the victims to an area hospital; they were concious and awake at that time.

This is not an active shooter situation. The area is considered secure and police are now conducting an investigation.

Parent reunifcation with students is being held at Killingsworth Court and Kerby, near the Jefferson High School football field.

Traffic is still impacted in this area.

Sgt. Pete Simpson said Friday that officers don’t know whether the shooter was alone or with others, but he says preliminary information suggests it’s gang-related.
