INDEPENDENCE, Ky. – A robbery suspect was shot and killed on Monday morning near Cody Road in Independence.
Kentucky State Police confirmed that Todd was indeed armed when he resisted arrest and evaded them around 10:30 a.m.
Todd had led police on a high-speed chase that started around 1:15 a.m. in Florence. He was chased by Florence police onto southbound I-75 and exited at Mount Zion Road, but crashed while attempting to reenter the highway. He was able to exit his vehicle and flee on foot.
The Kentucky State Police and other departments were able to coordinate efforts and locate Todd near a home off of Cody Road. Once noticed, Todd ran again from police towards the woods.
Kentucky State Police Lt. Rick St. Blankhart said that Kenton County, Independence, Ludlow and Covington officers along with KSP were part of the search for Todd.
“The subject was apprehended for a short period of time. At that point was when the subject did not reply to verbal commands,” Blankhart said. “At that point the subject was shot and pronounced deceased at that point.”
Todd had a gun on him at the time of his capture, when police shot and killed him on the scene.
There is an ongoing investigation.
