Marriage; Established by GodPosted by Janell Maria Troutt on June 7, 2013
There is an old saying; “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.” Too many people are taking this mentality today when it comes to important moral issues and values. Some Conservatives are saying that the Republican Party needs to become more accepting of ‘social issues,’ specifically gay marriage, which is what I am addressing. I say the opposite. The Republican Party has been the party known for traditional Christian values. These values are the values that America was founded on. Though it may not seem popular to hold to these values, it is a necessity. Ronald Reagan once said, “If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a Nation gone under.” Those are such true words.
The leftist strategy to attack those who believe in traditional marriage is to call them hateful and label them as bigoted. There is a difference between hating a person and disagreeing with what that person is doing. The irony here is that the majority of those on the left are the first ones to attack a person for his or her beliefs, should those beliefs differ from leftist ideology. I, personally, have been called names, cursed at, and verbally attacked for supporting Biblical marriage. I remember sending a tweet saying, “Call me old school, but I support traditional marriage. #DOMA” This did not attack anyone, nor did it express hatred towards any group of people. However, I received so many replies that were downright nasty.
On the issue on changing our party’s platform on gay marriage, I say no. If we cave in on our moral values, how are we any different from the Democrats? Those on the left would like for us to think that if we do not change our stance on this issue, then we will surely lose. I do not believe this at all. We need to remain the party of morals! George W. Bush said, “One of my proudest moments is that I did not sell my soul for the sake of popularity.” I hope the GOP as a whole will be able to say the same thing.
Those who disagree with my stance on gay marriage are likely to call me a bigot or a judgmental person. Call me what you will. It is God Who defined marriage. Man did not. Trying to change the definition of marriage is basically telling God that He is wrong. God is never wrong. Humans are flawed. We need to remember that we are One Nation Under God, and not vice versa.
America is a Judeo-Christian country. Let’s keep her that way!
