Remembering the Victims- West, TexasPosted by TM Snyder on April 24, 2013
Last week, as most Americans were wrapped up with the search and capture of the two Boston Marathon bombing suspects, a horrific scene unfolded in the small community of West, Texas. Around 8 p.m. last Wednesday evening, April 17, a large explosion stemming from a local fertilizer plant shook the town to it’s core. The blast left a four block area of this tight knit community totally decimated and estimates have suggested between 75-100 homes were either completely lost or damaged. The intensity of the explosion left a crater in it’s wake 100 feet wide and over 10 feet deep, investigators said Tuesday.
The number of people who have lost their lives due to this tragedy has risen to 15 as of today, according to officials Tuesday, at least 11 of which were first emergency responders. Furthermore, an additional 200 individuals were injured by the blast and treated at local Hospitals. However, officials seem confident all fatalities are accounted for at this time. In Waco Texas, TV Station KXXV, says officials have found all the victims according to Steve Vanek. “No more victims. Everything is searched.” said Vanek in Tuesday’s news conference.
Personally, i find it unimaginable that this small community has been dealt yet another devastating blow nearly 20 years to the day after the Waco Siege came to an end on April 19, 1993. But if we have learned anything over the past week, it is that Americans are strong. We will rise up, join together, rebuild and move forward. If this is true anywhere, it’s Texas! So in the wake of the cowardly terrorist attack on our nation, I want to recognize and pray for those in West, Texas. Because I live in a small community, I understand how this type of disaster affects absolutely everyone within. So to all those in West, Texas and the surrounding communities, please know that America stands behind you, supports your rebuilding efforts and prays with you and for your community as a whole. God Bless Texas!
