Michelle Bachmann Not Running in 2014

michellebachmannMinnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann says that after serious consideration, she will not be running for re-election in 2014. She will be ending her tenure as the representative from Minnesota’s sixth congressional district after four terms. She claims her decision was not influenced by concerns that she would not be re-elected, or by recent inquiries into her 2012 presidential campaign. In a video released, she says, “I will continue to work overtime for the next 18 months in Congress defending the same constitutional conservative values we have worked so hard on together.”

Michelle Bachmann was a Tea Party favorite and former Republican Presidential candidate in 2012, but more importantly, she’s a Mother, Wife, and a good Christian woman who loves America. Her decision to not run simply to just hold public office is a great one for many reasons. Love her or hate her, she understands that term limits are a step in the right direction.

Being conservative is great and it continues one to hold onto the support of their constituents, but the longer one stays in office the more their conservatism is subject to decay. Career politicians or many of those who stay in Congress for decades often give into special interest groups or fail to hold the same values they had coming into office. Bachmann says that, in her opinion, if presidents can only serve eight years that length of time is sufficient for her to serve in Congress. She has done her service as a Congresswoman and she feels that it’s the right time to move on. Many maybe upset that she is not running again because it opens the seat up, but she is doing what is right for her at this time and we must respect that decision.
