*UPDATED* Terrorists take hostages in Sydney, Australia

Customers and staff at the Lindt Cafe in Sydney are being held hostage by a couple of terrorists who support ISIS. The police have surrounded the cafe and sealed off the surrounding area.

What we know so far about the Martin Place hostage situation:

•  At least 13 hostages are being held in Lindt Cafe in Martin Place.

• Hostages are being forced to hold up a black flag with Arabic script in the windows.

• One gunman is armed with a shotgun and possibly a handgun.

• Unconfirmed radio reports have claimed the perpetrator has demanded to speak to Prime Minister Tony Abbott, and claimed to have planted four explosive devices across Sydney.

• The Opera House has also been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

• The federal government’s National Security Committee has convened for briefings on the situation.

• Thousands of people have been evacuated from buildings in the surrounding area.

The Sydney siege has now ended with CPR being performed on 2 victims

Reports are that this is finally over. Has not been confirmed yet.

Eleven people have escaped after gunfire, both police and paramedics have entered the building.
The police decided to storm the cafe.

Hostage taker identified. The hostage taker is a 49-year-old cleric from Iran, who is well-known by the Australian police. His name is Sheikh Man Monis.

Gunman forces the 15 left hostages to stand against the window to prevent sniper fire.

A sixth hostage has now escaped from the cafe.

UPDATE 2:02 a.m. EST Hostages inside the Martin Place, Sydney, cafe are saying that the gunman wants an ISIS flag & to speak with PM Tony Abbott and claiming to have two bombs inside the cafe.

UPDATE 1:32 a.m. EST Police confirmed Monday afternoon that five people have escaped from the cafe. It is unclear how many more are still being held inside, although authorities have estimated the number is less than thirty. isis tweet

An Australian professor has confirmed that the flag two of the hostages are holding up is a flag used by many of the Jihadist groups in the Middle East, including ISIS.

It appears there is only one terrorist, and police have made contact with him as they attempt to calm down the situation.

The NSW Police Commissioner confirmed during a press conference that there is an armed gunman holding people hostage, and the police are on the top of the situation, but people should pray for those being held hostage.  The Commissioner advised that police are doing everything possible to deescalate this situation so that no one will be harmed, but the citizens of Sydney need to be patient.

The police have yet to learn the motivation behind this terrorist event.
