Grab your mugs, bottles, and shot glasses! The State of the Union address will be delivered tonight by President Obama at 9PM EST. Will he apologize to the American people for the failure of Obamacare and for our struggling economy? Don’t bet your food stamps on it. What you will hear from the President is that we are still recovering and Americans need help. He will discuss income inequality and inform us all that since Congress fails to act , he will use executive orders to accomplish what his agenda. He will speak about the minimum wage and educate us all on why he must raise it to boost our economy.
What does the president have going for him as he prepares to address the nation? Low expectations. After suffering from a severe case of scandalitis in 2013 and poor poll numbers, he will dive right into campaign mode. We do know that he does that very well. Not even a terrorist attack will stop him from begging for money.
President Obama will focus on income inequality and a hike in the minimum wage, but what you shouldn’t expect is for him to address the root causes of our stagnant economy. Sure, he will bring up that he is open to working with Congress on new ideas, but he will attempt to drive home to the American people that he knows what’s best for us. He will explain to us that Congress has failed us and he is our last hope to close the gap between the rich and the poor.
“We are not just going to be waiting for legislation in order to make sure that we are providing Americans the kind of help that they need. I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone.”
The State of the Union is simply a policy address. President Obama will tell us that his policies would work if it weren’t for a gridlocked Congress or those evil Republicans standing in the way of “progress”. Jobs would be created and employers would magically start hiring again if it weren’t for those evil Republicans. This is an address in an attempt of protecting the Democratic majority in the Senate. This is the State of the Democrats address. The president knows that if Democrats lose control in 2014, that could significantly complicate his policy agenda. The president will more than likely try to distance himself from an unpopular Congress and promise to use executive orders to implement some of his priorities.
Get your popcorn and drinks ready. Have your drinking game rules handy and remember that President Obama has indeed kept one key promise. He said that he would fundamentally transform America. We are seeing that.
